My Highlight of the Day---James Cotton

Moments before James Cotton's band took the stage, Lurrie Bell, Hubert Sumlin, Fiona Boyes and other Chi-ractors sat around backstage

James Cotton blew his first notes from backstage, and then walked out.

And then he wailed.

Hubert Sumlin joined James. Nuff said. Pinetop Perkins joined later.

Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins and James Cotton and his band were a real joy to have around. They are not just living legends but cool people as well. James Cotton's second guitar player, Tom Holland, is a guy I've been watching develop since he was a teenager and it was great to be able to hang out with my old friend for a while. Hubert Sumlin, who was Howlin' Wolf's guitar player is just a joy to be around. And if you want to befriend 94 year old Pinetop Perkins, just bring him a McDonalds cheeseburger!! He loves them more than anything. Local artist Diane Russell actually hiked up to Broadway just to get Pinetop his "Micky D burger". He was grinning from ear to ear.

Oh ... did I mention that the set of music by the James Cotton Band was one of the hottest sets of the festival so far?
